Preparing for Market Season as a One Woman Leather Shop
Share
Market season is just around the corner, and that means things are getting a little wild here at Sweeet Bippy HQ.
Running a one-woman leather shop means that when market season rolls around, I’m not just the designer — I’m also the cutter, stitcher, packer, display builder, inventory manager, and occasionally the person frantically searching the studio for where I put the good scissors.
Preparing for a market takes weeks of behind-the-scenes work. Every bag, wallet, strap, and small leather good starts as a piece of leather on my workbench. I hand cut every pattern, punch every hole, and assemble each piece one at a time. When markets are approaching, the studio fills up fast with colorful stacks of leather goods waiting to meet their future homes.
One of my favorite parts of preparing for market season is deciding what new designs to bring. Markets are the perfect place to experiment — whether it’s a bold new color combination, a playful accessory, or a design idea that’s been bouncing around in my head for months.
Of course, there’s also the not-so-glamorous side of market prep. That means organizing inventory, labeling everything, packing the booth display, and making sure I have enough bags, straps, wallets, and small goods to keep the table full.
But when the market day finally arrives, all the preparation is worth it. Getting to meet the people who carry my work, talk about leather, and see someone fall in love with a piece I made with my own hands is the best part of the whole process.
Sweeet Bippy has always been about creating playful, handmade leather goods with personality, and markets are where that spirit really comes to life.
If you see the Sweeet Bippy booth this season, come say hi — I’ll probably be the one surrounded by colorful leather and smiling like a proud mom
